Static Systems - Nurse Call Systems

The Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh

Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh

Static Systems supplied, installed and commissioned a fully networked, platform independent nurse call system with the ability to collect many third-party inputs for onward transmission to the BMS system using the hospital’s Local Area Network (LAN). The project also included the supply of fully assembled bedhead services trunking for rapid on-site installation.

A particular challenge faced by the project team was how best to collect and re-transmit the high number of alarm inputs located around the site. The answer was to use Static Systems’ nurse call system as the ward communications hub.

Advanced nurse call systems of the type used today are generally an under-utilised communications resource - with signal capacity and communication capabilities far beyond the requirements of typical patient-to-nurse call. And, being installed at ward level, they are ideally located for collecting alarm inputs from other sources.

Static Systems’ nurse call datastation with its extensive features was used to provide a very useful user interface between the BMS and the nurse call system.

To reduce the number of nurse call indicators that would usually be required at staff touch-down bases, Static Systems provided ‘pop-up’ messaging on staff PCs.

Features of the system include:

  • Patient-to-nurse call
  • Staff-to-staff emergency call
  • Pneumatic tube monitoring
  • Panic Alarm
  • Third-party auxiliary alarm monitoring
  • Pop-up messaging
  • Call logging with data analysis
  • Connection to hospital’s BMS system (Schneider Electrical)
  • Integration with fire alarm system (Gent)

Static Systems also provided the bedhead services trunking on this project, delivering units to site which had been fully assembled, pre-piped and pre-gassed at the company’s manufacturing plant to assist with rapid installation on site.

System: Fully networked Codemlon nurse call system connected to the hospital’s LAN. Modus Bedhead Services Trunking.
