Single Bed Ward Concept Gains Wider Audience
Reaction to Static Systems' single bed ward concept at the 2009 Healthcare Estates Exhibition has persuaded the company to invest in promoting the concept further afield.
Visitors to the exhibition were given a preview at what future single bed wards might look like on Static Systems’ stand. The debate and comments that have resulted convinced the company to use the concept ward in other ways. The exhibit is being re-built and installed at Static Systems’ headquarters in Wombourne, Staffordshire alongside an existing four-bed mock up ward and will be an invaluable resource for customers, visitors and others involved in hospital design, ward management and related issues.
The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) in conjunction with the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) has also invited Static Systems to take the concept ward to an event in Manchester on 11-13 March, 2010, called ‘The Big Bang Fair’, targeted at school leavers considering careers in science and engineering.
The Static Systems' single bed ward concept boasts the very latest healthcare innovations and is inspired by the anticipated dramatic growth in single bed accommodation in the UK.

The concept ward features the latest nurse call and bedhead services products and some advanced concepts in ward design and systems integration. These include: full connectivity of the bed to provide status, exit alarms and nurse call. These features, along with automatic nurse presence, patient entertainment and two-way speech through IP are intended to stimulate debate on how technology might be used to enhance the patient environment and assist in issues such as infection control and patient safety.
Static Systems’ sales and marketing director Phil Wade said: "The reaction we got at the show proved that there is a genuine and growing interest in the concept of single bed wards and their design and functionality. The feedback from our concept ward may well influence future design and thinking on the topic and it is part of our continued strategy to engage with relevant user groups."
