Modular Design and Technology in Single Bed Wards

The debate - for and against single bed wards in UK hospitals - continues to rage and a CPD-approved presentation, by Static Systems Group is intended to guide and influence thoughts on the role that modular design and technology can play.

Modular Design and Technology in Single Bed Wards

The seminar, originally delivered to the Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) West Midlands’ branch, is now being offered to a wider audience as Static Systems shares the feedback it has generated from comments received about its concept single bed ward.

The concept ward was first shown at the most recent Healthcare Estates Conference and Exhibition and is now installed as a permanent feature at the company’s headquarters in the midlands.

The presentation describes the arguments that support single bed wards and contrasts these with the concerns expressed by those that oppose the idea.

Within a wide-ranging agenda issues discussed include: the background to the growth of single bed wards, the key drivers for patient safety, how technology can assist the patient environment and patient care. In fact, all issues that lead to the provision of an optimal healing environment within single bed wards are covered.

Static Systems’ Phil Wade said: “We are amazed at the response we have had to our concept single bed ward and felt that we should make public some of the reactions and comments we have received.

“The dramatic growth in single bed wards since the issue of HBN 04-01 Adult in patient facilities in 2007, has seen many Trusts exceed the recommended minimum of 50 percent single room accommodation, with some considering 100 percent adoption.

“Our presentation reflects some of the views of expert sources and takes an objective look at the role that design and technology is playing and the issues that are most important,” explained Mr Wade.
