Apprenticeships
Our apprenticeship scheme is based at our headquarters in Wombourne in the West Midlands, and is aimed at school leavers and young people between the ages of 17 - 20 years.
The two or three year engineering apprenticeships offer the chance to gain quality work based training whilst continuing to study towards recognised vocational qualifications (NVQ and HNC), with technical certificates depending on the vocational area.
It provides the opportunity to develop on-the-job apprenticeship skills in either technical engineering or craft engineering.
You will spend some of your time working towards qualifications that are relevant to your training as an apprentice, and in some cases this will include attendance at a local college on a day release basis. The remainder of your time will be spent learning on the job in your chosen apprenticeship area.
Training will be provided and supported by experienced managers and your performance will be regularly monitored throughout the two or three year apprenticeship programme.

Job Opportunities
PCB CAD Engineer Date of posting: 4 March 2008
A PCB CAD engineer is required to join the Development Department.
You will be responsible for the design of PCBs, technical liaison with PCB manufacturers and the support, through initial manufacture, of our surface mount production facility.
As a PCB CAD Engineer, you will be required to:
- Work closely with Electronic Engineers and Mechanical Engineers to design PCBs and design new component Decals.
- Generate related documentation including drawings, bills of materials, Gerber files etc. for both check plot and final release.
- Liaise with PCB manufacturers, Test, Production and Technical Services to manage the prototype build and release of new PCMs.
- Maintain the component database.
- Proactively investigate and resolve production issues.
- Generate product information packs.
- Work on multiple projects at different stages of design.
Skills:
- Hands-on design experience with the PADS suite of circuit design and PCB Layout tools would be advantageous, however training will be provided.
- Good communication skills.
- Report and technical writing ability using Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of parts design and control.
- ONC/HNC in electronics or related discipline.
The ideal candidate will be skilled in the use of the PADS suite of design tools, be self-motivated and be able to work on multiple projects with a minimum of supervision.

Security/Caretaker Date of posting: 26 March 2008
A security / caretaker is required to join the Works Services/Security team.
The role requires you to:

Open up the premises in the morning.

Secure and lock up the premises in the morning.

Undertake callout duties (keyholder), alternating on a weekly basis.

Supervise the cleaning team.

Carry out other duties as required by the business, including driving.
The successful applicant should be trustworthy, flexible, reliable and able to work on their own initiative. Satisfactory references and a full, clean driving licence are essential.
Hours of work:
Monday to Friday 2 shifts of 6.45am - 10.45am and 3.00pm - 7.00pm
alternating on a weekly basis.
Saturday and Sunday 6.45am - 12.45pm, alternating on a weekly basis, as required.
Occasional overtime may be required.

Systems Engineers Date of posting: 30 April 2008
Systems Engineers are required for both our Nurse Call and Fire Alarm Departments. Working as part of an established team, the positions involve planning projects to customer requirements, involving the preparation of Bills of Materials, drawings and general correspondence. Close liaison with our head office staff and client teams will be required to ensure projects run smoothly
The suitable applicants should be confident and have good communication skills whilst being capable of working accurately to deadlines. Previous experience, together with a good electrical understanding and working knowledge of AutoCAD, would be an advantage, although further training will be given.

Electronics Design Engineer Date of posting: 30 April 2008
An Electronics Design Engineer is required to join the Development Department.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for existing and future designs, and as such should have demonstrable experience of the full product design lifecycle. They must be a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills, and able to communicate with people from all areas of the business.
As a member of the Development Department, you will be involved in the design of a wide range or communication and alarm products, which incorporate both digital and analogue circuits containing a range of 8, 16 and 32-bit processors using embedded C code.
Ideal Skills:
- Analogue and Digital design.
- Embedded software design.
- Knowledge of product standards such as EMC, LVD, etc.
- Programming in higher level languages, such as C++ or Delphi.
- Designing real time networked systems.
Experience:
- 2 years in a relevant electronics design environment.
Qualifications:
- Educated to Honours degree level in Electronics.
